Display logic allows for the conditional display of response options for selection questions, based on the response to a previous question.
Display logic is used with closed-ended selection or dropdown question types. It is most useful when respondents are asked to make multiple selections from a list of response options, and then they are asked to make a second selection on a subsequent question that displays only their chosen responses.
In the example below, respondents are first asked to select all of the TV shows that they have heard of or know about.
In the next question, we want to only display the selected TV shows. Here only a sub-set of responses are displayed and respondents will be able to make a selection from this sub-set.
How to Implement Display Logic
Click the question logic icon where the display logic will be applied (i.e., the follow-up question).
In the question logic pop-up, click the "Display Options" tab.
There are three components in the display options tab. First is the "Option". This is the current response option that we want to conditionally display.
Next are two parts that work together: "Question" and "Is". First, select the question using the "Question" dropdown. This is the initial question that respondents will have made a selection on.
Once the question is selected, its response options will populate in the "Is" dropdown. Select the response option that respondents must select, in order for the current response option to be displayed.
In the example below, the option "Modern Family" will be displayed only if respondents selected "Option 1" on "Question 1".
